In mid-2022, Healthy Waters sought to award a pre-contract services contract to a collaborative, proactive construction partner, who had a suitable track record in delivering similar asset upgrade projects for Auckland Council. March Cato were delighted to be chosen as their selected partner to work with their team, including client and designer representatives to help develop, and then deliver, a cost efficient, constructable, stormwater asset upgrade solution to achieve meet their objectives. 

The objectives of the project were as follows: 

  • Eliminate the risk of unexpected failure of existing assets 
  • Cater for future growth 
  • Increase hydraulic capacity
  • Reduce potential flooding risk

The project involved the renewal and upgrade of the existing DN1680 RC pipeline with a new 2.5m x 2m box culvert, fish passage provisions and extensive stabilisation of the existing Sabulite Stream, all whilst managing the challenges of operating in and around the existing, live stormwater assets. The project involved deep excavations through challenging ground conditions, unexpected contaminated land as well as extensive works within the existing road reserve.
