Huia 1 Watermain

Huia 1 Watermain

The Huia No.1 watermain is a critical transmission asset for Watercare, extending from the Huia Treatment Plant near Titirangi in West Auckland, connecting to a number of storage reservoirs and transmission assets, right the way into the Khyber Pass Reservoirs.

Watercare engaged March Cato to complete the strategic replacement of several sections of the existing transmission pipeline, including the construction of Air Valves, Scour Valves and Line Valve chambers. The new sections of pipeline consist of the excavation, installation, welding and backfilling of Cement Lined Steel Pipework, up to 900mm diameter.

Each section is pressure tested and disinfected as part of the project before we can complete the cut-in and connection to incorporate the new assets into the existing network.

Works for the Huia 1 pipeline are typically installed using our fleet of diggers, trucks and bespoke shoring systems via open trench techniques, however, we have also deployed some trenchless construction methodologies to navigate existing assets, such as stream culverts and the like.
